The French government has recently announced several measures aimed at blocking telemarketing calls.
These measures have been implemented to protect consumers from unsolicited calls that are often intrusive. Despite this, many consumers complain about the frequency of telemarketing calls. The current measures seem ineffective in truly putting an end to these practices. Telemarketing calls have become a daily nuisance for many French people. These calls can be unpleasant and disrupt the daily lives of those targeted.
Insufficiency of registration on the red list or Bloctel
Despite registration on lists such as the red list or Bloctel, consumers continue to receive unsolicited calls. These lists appear to be insufficient to effectively block telemarketing calls.
Call restrictions for call-centers since March 2023
Since March 2023, restrictions have been put in place to limit calls from call-centers. However, these restrictions do not seem to be enough to solve the problem. A ban on calls during weekends and public holidays has been announced, but many consumers still receive calls at these inopportune times. Specific schedules have been set for calls during the week, but these timings do not appear to be respected by call-centers.
Ban on numbers starting with 06 or 07
Numbers starting with 06 or 07 are often associated with telemarketing. A ban on these numbers has been implemented, but call-centers seem to bypass this ban. They sometimes use specific prefixes to disguise their identity. It is important to block these prefixes associated with telemarketing to protect consumers.
Call centers must use specific prefixes — which you can block. For residents of mainland France, these are: 0162, 0163, 0270, 0271, 0377, 0378, 0424, 0425, 0568, 0569, 0948, 0949. If a number with one of these prefixes calls you, you can block it immediately.
