The Hollowed Vale is a cursed region caught between the living world and the realm of restless spirits. Fog rolls in from unknown shores every sunset, and by midnight the boundary between flesh and ghost grows thin enough to touch. Crumbling Victorian manors house generational curses; forgotten parishes hold rituals that were never meant to be found. Cults worship entities older than language, and small towns keep secrets that visitors uncover at their peril. Characters in the Vale must navigate paranoia, grief, and the seductive pull of forbidden knowledge. Not everything that appears monstrous is evil — and not everything that smiles is safe. Survival demands wit, courage, and the terrifying realization that some doors, once opened, can never be shut.

The Mourning Grove

The Mourning Grove manifests as a secluded area within the Weeping Cemetery, where the fog thickens and the atmosphere grows heavy with sorrow. This grove features an arrangement of ancient, drooping willow trees whose gnarled branches sweep low to the ground, creating a veiling effect that ensnares the surroundings in an emotional cocoon. The ground is carpeted with fallen leaves, softening footsteps and echoing the ghostly whispers of the past. At its center lies a circular stone platform, upon which sits a weathered granite bench, intricately engraved with symbols of loss and remembrance. Here, visitors often come to reflect and mourn, working through their grief in a space that seems to resonate with collective sorrow. The lighting is particularly moody; lanterns hanging from the willows flicker and cast haunting shadows across the grove's periphery, enhancing the sense of isolation. In this quiet sanctuary, the winds carry hushed words, as if the spirits of the departed gather to console those left behind, creating an atmosphere that balances despair with an inexplicable sense of comfort.

History

The Mourning Grove is a relatively recent addition to the Weeping Cemetery, established shortly after a particularly devastating plague swept through the region, claiming countless lives. In the aftermath, grieving families sought a dedicated space to honor their lost loved ones, prompting the enclave of willows to be planted in tribute to their memory. Over the years, the grove has taken on a life of its own, becoming a focal point for mourning rituals and gatherings. Folk tales tell of generations utilizing the sanctuary to commune with spirits seeking solace, and the bench is said to bear the weight of countless tears shed by visitors. As local lore spread, the Grove's significance as a haven for reflection deepened, making it a cherished part of the cemetery, where sorrow and remembrance intertwine in the soft rustle of leaves and the faint glow of lanterns.
