A ravaged world rebuilt from the ruins of civilization, one day at a time.

The Shattered Horizon is the world after the Fall — a patchwork of irradiated badlands, flooded coastal ruins, and fortified survivor settlements clinging to existence. Nobody alive remembers the Before; they only know the After. Water is currency. Diesel is religion. Factions — the Ironclad Compact, the Verdant Covenant, the Reapers of the Hollow — war over resources and ideology in equal measure. Mutated wildlife stalks the open wastelands, and ancient pre-Fall military bunkers still hold terrible secrets worth dying for. Characters are scavengers, medics, warlords, wandering traders, and reluctant heroes who discover that rebuilding the world is harder than surviving it. Hope is the most dangerous commodity of all.

The Echoing Atrium

Tucked beneath a colossal overhang of fused glass on the periphery of the Glass Wastes, the Echoing Atrium is a subterranean enclave that offers refuge from the harsh elements above. This expansive cave-like chamber is shaped by the ancient, undulating walls of hardened glass, which reflect light in prismatic patterns across the ground. Residents have illuminated the area with bioluminescent fungi, casting a gentle, otherworldly glow that dances across the crystalline surfaces. The Atrium is a communal space used for gatherings, trading, and storytelling, where echoes bounce melodically off the walls, allowing even the faintest whispers to resonate throughout the chamber. Sturdy makeshift benches and tables crafted from salvaged materials provide gathering spots for inhabitants to share resources and news, surrounded by vibrant patches of mutated plant life flourishing in the shadowed corners. Braziers stoked with scrap metal and other flammables gently warm the space, creating a contrast against the chilly air, while the soft sound of dripping water from above sets a serene backdrop against the bustling activities of the inhabitants. The Atrium serves not only as a shelter but as a focal point for cultivating community ties in a desolate world, symbolizing hope amid the chaos of the Glass Wastes.

History

The Echoing Atrium emerged as a refuge for survivors who sought shelter from the relentless sunlight and biting winds of the Glass Wastes. Over time, the subterranean space garnered a reputation as a safe haven where people gathered to escape the dangers above during the day. It was initially discovered by a band of scavengers who stumbled upon its entrance, finding the acoustics of the space mesmerizing as their voices echoed melodically in the chambers. As news spread of its sanctuary-like qualities, more individuals began to seek it out for community gatherings and trade. Advancements in the colony's ability to cultivate mutated fungi and revitalized plant life inside the Atrium contributed to a burgeoning sense of stability and community, fostering resilience and cooperation. Today, the Echoing Atrium stands as a testament to human ingenuity and adaptation, acting as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the connections that can be forged even amid the desolation of the Glass Wastes.
