The Whispering Grove
Tucked away from the ruins and hidden beneath the gnarled branches of twisted trees, The Whispering Grove is a small clearing filled with a pervading sense of chill and foreboding. The ground is blanketed with damp moss, punctuated by stones that form a rough circular seating area, where townsfolk once held clandestine gatherings. At the center, a large, jagged stone known as the Heartstone thrums with a faintly pulsating glow, rumored to be a focus for the spirits of the drowned. The air is thick with resonance, echoing with whispers that seem to float through the mist, haunting the ears of those who draw near. Shadows mingle with the fog as the light filters through the skeletal branches above, creating a patchwork of gloom and ghostly illumination, enhancing the eerie ambiance of the grove. Every rustle of leaves and crack of branches feels alive, leading visitors to ponder the lore of lost souls who might have once sought revelations in this cursed space.
History
The Whispering Grove is believed to have served as a sacred meeting spot for the original settlers of The Drowned Parish. Legends state that it was here, beneath the shelter of ancient trees, that the villagers would gather to hold rituals invoking the spirits of their ancestors, seeking guidance and protection from the waters that loomed so close. However, as the floodwaters rose and tragedy struck, the grove transformed into a site of sorrow. Over time, it fell into disuse, shunned by later generations who whispered of the disturbing voices that could be heard on still nights. The Heartstone, once a revered artifact, became a symbol of their collective grief and was said to absorb the essence of the lost souls. Now, the grove stands shrouded in superstition, attracting only those daring enough to confront the whispers of the past that linger in the moist air.
