A republic lends time, but no one can rewrite the past.

In Orivelle, anyone can deposit an hour of their future in a public clock to lend it to someone else. Borrowed time allows care, learning or repairs, never travel into the past. When deadlines disappear from the archives, clerks, borrowers and clockmakers must recover forgotten promises before one generation bears their entire cost.

Temporal Archive Station

The Temporal Archive Station is a dedicated room within the Paired Receipt Gallery, designed to securely store the tangible memories represented by borrowed time. This circular chamber features high, domed ceilings lined with intricate clockwork designs, where vintage mechanical clocks hang in an array that creates a symphony of ticking. The walls are adorned with wooden shelves filled with carefully labeled glass jars, each containing items such as dried flowers, letters, and mementos, representing the hours someone has lent or borrowed. A polished stone floor reflects the soft illumination of bioluminescent crystals embedded in the archways, casting gentle, shifting hues of blue and violet across the room. In the center, a large, round table made of dark mahogany provides space for visitors to review or submit their recorded memories on scrolls. The air is filled with a slight, aromatic tension, like the scent of old parchment mixed with the fresh essence of wrapped memories, fostering an atmosphere of introspection and care.

History

The Temporal Archive Station was established to provide a designated area where citizens could reflect on the significance of the time they send or receive. Over the years, it has evolved through community contributions, growing from a simple collection to a vital resource for communal storytelling and memory preservation, emphasizing the ethical implications of lending time in a shared society. Frequent workshops and events promote awareness around time ethics, making the station a hub of learning and connection.
