A republic lends time, but no one can rewrite the past.

In Orivelle, anyone can deposit an hour of their future in a public clock to lend it to someone else. Borrowed time allows care, learning or repairs, never travel into the past. When deadlines disappear from the archives, clerks, borrowers and clockmakers must recover forgotten promises before one generation bears their entire cost.

Timekeeper's Observation Deck

The Timekeeper's Observation Deck is a circular space located above the Patient Gear Workshop, offering a panoramic view of the workshop and the surrounding cityscape of Orivelle. Large, arching windows crafted from frosted glass filter in a soft, blue-tinted light, creating an ambient atmosphere perfect for reflection. This elevated space is adorned with intricate wooden railings and time-themed motifs, including hourglasses and celestial symbols carved into the wood. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in the peaceful sounds of clockwork mechanisms below while contemplating the ethical implications of time lending, as plaques with thoughtful quotes about time and memory are displayed along the walls.

History

The Observation Deck was completed shortly after the first major upgrade of the Patient Gear Workshop, intended as a space for public discussion and contemplation about the community's relationship with time. It has since become a popular locale where citizens gather to share stories of their experiences with borrowed time, reflecting on both the burdens and joys it brings.
