Nerivane shelters neighbourhoods in pressure domes connected by filtering gardens. Air and current passages are commons whose use is negotiated in assemblies. When oxygen records stop matching measurements, divers, biologists and mediators investigate without sacrificing the reefs that keep the city alive.

Reference Reef Nursery — Test stations separated from reference samples allow careful comparisons.

Discover the place

Test stations separated from reference samples allow careful comparisons. A cleaning area and observation counter complete the space. Beneath the sea, a city shares its air, currents and secrets.

History

Successive improvements show collective upkeep: replaced parts, widened passages and uses adjusted to residents’ needs.

Oxygen Exchange Chamber

The Oxygen Exchange Chamber is a vital component of the Reference Reef Nursery, where the atmospheric balance of the underwater city is carefully monitored. The chamber is a large, transparent sphere made of reinforced glass, elegantly suspended within a network of branching coral structures. Inside, researchers conduct experiments with various algae samples that are crucial for oxygen replenishment. The chamber features multiple workstations and observation areas allowing visitors to watch as scientists measure oxygen levels, flow rates, and the overall health of the algae. Bioluminescent conduits run along the walls, providing ambient lighting while also serving as indicators of water quality. Soft currents flow gently within the chamber, creating a serene atmosphere conducive to collaborative research.

Hydrothermal Analysis Bay

The Hydrothermal Analysis Bay is a specialized section within the Reference Reef Nursery dedicated to studying the unique ecosystems formed around hydrothermal vents. This bay features a series of sealed observation pods arranged in a semi-circle, offering researchers a direct view of bubbling, mineral-rich waters. The pods, crafted from reinforced glass and coral composites, are designed to withstand high pressure while allowing for unobstructed sightlines into the dramatic underwater landscape. A series of small tanks contain samples of microbial life and minerals collected from the vents, while ambient bioluminescent displays softly illuminate the area, enhancing the bay's scientific ambiance. The continuous sound of rushing water and occasional bubbling creates an immersive environment that fosters deep engagement in research and discovery.
