Beneath the sea, a city shares its air, currents and secrets.

Nerivane shelters neighbourhoods in pressure domes connected by filtering gardens. Air and current passages are commons whose use is negotiated in assemblies. When oxygen records stop matching measurements, divers, biologists and mediators investigate without sacrificing the reefs that keep the city alive.

Hydrosonic Testing Bay

The Hydrosonic Testing Bay is a spacious, semi-circular room designed for the evaluation of underwater communication devices. Its interior features smooth, rounded walls made from reinforced glass, allowing onlookers to witness the testing processes while maintaining a safe observation distance. The central area is filled with various pieces of state-of-the-art sonar equipment, each anchored securely to the ground. Above, a series of adjustable translucent domes allow natural light to filter in, creating a serene atmosphere filled with soft, cerulean hues as the sun filters through the water above. In the corners, coral formations have been integrated to hold sound-diffusing materials, which create a harmonious blend of technology and nature. This workshop is meticulously organized, with labeled shelves holding custom parts and tools necessary for maintenance and innovations in diving technology. The faint sound of equipment whirring and the gentle hum of water currents provide a calming background to the important work conducted here.

History

The Hydrosonic Testing Bay was established to improve communication practices for underwater navigation and safety. Originally a basic testing facility, it has undergone various enhancements over the years, reflecting the collaborative spirit of the Nerivane community. The integration of coral to aid sound management is a recent innovation, developed through partnerships with local biologists studying the acoustics of marine life. The facility has become a cornerstone for divers and engineers, fostering a nexus of knowledge exchange and innovation.
