About this world

Elmere’s islands are linked by causeways usable when their resonators align. Each community has a different musical grammar, and no melody can compel consent. When a new interval shakes the foundations, interpreters, instrument makers and crossing keepers learn to compose without erasing silence or difference.

To explore

Symphonic Reflections

Nestled within the Kept Silence Garden, the Symphonic Reflections is a serene pond encircled by smooth lavender stones, where water lilies bloom and the surface shimmers like liquid glass. The pond features ceramic musical resonators scattered around its edge, which subtly amplify the sounds of nature and create a harmonic dialogue between the wind, water, and the occasional strumming of nearby instruments. Visitors often gather around the pond, listening intently with closed eyes, allowing the harmonious blend of environmental sounds to wash over them. A narrow, winding path constructed from weathered wood traverses the interior of the garden, leading to various viewpoints around the pond and ensuring access without disrupting the delicate ecosystem. Overhead, woven sound screens filter sunlight, casting dappled patterns of light on the water, enhancing the ethereal atmosphere of the garden.

Chorus Canopy

The Chorus Canopy is a magnificent arboreal space created beneath the intertwining branches of ancient trees, each carefully chosen for their harmonic resonance. This unique structure floats above the ground, constructed from interwoven branches, colorful woven sound screens, and hanging plants that create a vibrant tapestry of greens and purples. Below, multiple circular platforms serve as resting spots, lined with soft, naturally colored cushions made from local fibrous materials. The canopy allows gentle breezes to filter through while keeping visitors shielded from the sunlight, producing a cool, inviting atmosphere. Musical interpretations often take place here, with visitors sitting in quiet contemplation or participating in spontaneous jam sessions, harmonized by the natural acoustics of the trees. The melding sounds of nature and music transform this space into a resonant chamber of creativity and connection.

To explore

Melodious Archway

The Melodious Archway is a graceful structure nestled between the swirling branches of the nearby trees, crafted from lavender stone and decorated with intricately carved musical motifs. Enclosed by gentle ivy, this archway serves as both an entrance and a focal point within the Kept Silence Garden. When the wind blows through, it creates a soft symphony of sounds, amplified by the ceramic resonators built into the archway, which resonate with the natural acoustics of the garden. The archway leads to a secluded nook filled with cushions and woven mats where visitors can gather to share compositions or simply enjoy the harmonious blend of nature's sounds. The atmosphere is tranquil and inviting, with dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves above, creating a serene ambiance perfect for reflection or musical exploration.
