About this world

Elmere’s islands are linked by causeways usable when their resonators align. Each community has a different musical grammar, and no melody can compel consent. When a new interval shakes the foundations, interpreters, instrument makers and crossing keepers learn to compose without erasing silence or difference.

Resonant Shade Grove

Nestled toward the edge of the Joined Resonance Causeway, the Resonant Shade Grove is a quiet sanctuary cultivated with a diverse array of indigenous flora known for their resonant qualities. Overhanging canopies formed by intertwining branches create a natural dome, dappled with light filtering down through green leaves. Stone benches, hewn from the local lavender stone, are situated invitingly in semicircular arrangements, encouraging groups to gather and engage in lively discussions or collaborations. The ground is soft with a carpet of moss, creating a soothing, muted environment where sounds are absorbed yet still reverberate gently, allowing for personal reflections and intimate sound explorations. This grove serves as both a cultural and spiritual meeting point, blending nature’s tranquility with the island’s rich musical heritage, and often hosts spontaneous song circles or quiet gatherings during alignment events.

The Sonorous Pavilion is a beautifully designed structure located near the center of the Joined Resonance Causeway, harmonizing both aesthetics and functionality. It features a spiral roof made from elegant, translucent ceramic tiles that shimmer in the sunlight, creating a kaleidoscope of color that changes throughout the day. Around its open sides, intricately carved wooden panels depict scenes of musical harmony, allowing sound to flow freely while also providing some shelter from the elements. The interior is spacious and filled with natural light, thanks to strategically placed skylights. Acoustic features, including sound-reflective walls and hanging sound screens made of fine woven fibers, enhance the auditory experience, making it an ideal spot for impromptu performances and community gatherings.
