Darsenne is a basin of caravan towns where each well belongs to an association of users. Public surveys determine water shares, with no overlord or endless supply. An old map reveals an aquifer crossing several territories: surveyors, herders and negotiators must shape a shared future before the next caravan drains the reserves.

The Council of Wells

The Council of Wells is a circular amphitheater made from locally sourced clay and stone, designed for public gatherings and discussions about water distribution. The seating is arranged in tiered layers, allowing every voice to be heard from the central platform. At the heart of the amphitheater lies a shallow water basin that collects rainwater, surrounded by small, smooth stones. This basin symbolizes the shared resource of water and serves as a decorative fountain, creating a serene atmosphere with gentle trickling sounds. The walls of the amphitheater are adorned with engraved aquifer maps and the symbols of various water-sharing agreements, fostering a sense of unity among the community. The open sky above provides natural illumination during the day, while oil lamps hung from wooden posts ensure gatherings can continue into the evening under warm light.

The Pactkeeper's Alcove

The Pactkeeper's Alcove is a low, semicircular building constructed primarily from sun-baked earth bricks and timber accents, located at the edge of the Shared Fodder Plots. With a modest entrance framed by an intricately carved wooden arch, the interior features a circular layout conducive to intimate gatherings. The walls are adorned with vibrant tapestries that depict the various treaties forged between the different water associations. Thick, earthen walls keep the interior cool during the day, while strategically placed openings provide natural cross-ventilation and allow soft light to illuminate the space. In the center, a large round table made from reclaimed wood serves as a meeting place where representatives convene to discuss resource allocation and resolve conflicts. The atmosphere is one of respectful cooperation, filled with the muted sounds of nature and the distant rustle of plants swaying in the wind.
