Darsenne is a basin of caravan towns where each well belongs to an association of users. Public surveys determine water shares, with no overlord or endless supply. An old map reveals an aquifer crossing several territories: surveyors, herders and negotiators must shape a shared future before the next caravan drains the reserves.

The Aqueous Conclave

The Aqueous Conclave is a round chamber at the core of the Crossing Aquifer Archive, designed for discussions crucial to the stewardship of water rights. Its vaulted ceiling is constructed of timbers salvaged from old caravan structures, creating an atmosphere of unity and purpose. In the center lies a large circular table made from polished local stone, around which representatives from various associations convene to debate and negotiate water shares. The walls are adorned with murals depicting the history of the region's aquifers, blending old-world artistry with practical maps illustrating water flow and usage. A dim, warm light filters through small, strategically placed windows, casting moving shadows as the sun shifts. The room serves as both a sanctuary for quiet contemplation and a lively forum for important decision-making in the ongoing fight to protect water resources.

Archivist's Observation Nook

The Archivist's Observation Nook is a cozy alcove nestled at the edge of the Crossing Aquifer Archive, where the curves of the earth-walled structure allow for an intimate space filled with natural light. This enclave features a series of sloped earth benches covered in soft woven textiles for comfort, perfect for solitary reflection or quiet discussions. Shelves made from reclaimed timber display well-worn scrolls and books about the local ecosystem, while large windows offer a panoramic view of the sunlit landscape outside, showcasing the dry basin’s dust-laden beauty. A large fossilized aquifer map is mounted on one wall, illustrating the ancient water pathways, serving as both a resource for study and a reminder of the fragility of water rights in Darsenne. A rhythmic sound of wind through the nearby ventilation holes merges gently with the rustle of scrolls being examined, creating a serene atmosphere conducive to research and contemplation.

The Mapping Conclave

The Mapping Conclave is an expansive circular space within the Crossing Aquifer Archive, dedicated to the collection and sharing of vital water survey data. The floor is laid with smooth, large earth-toned tiles that form a map of the aquifers beneath Darsenne. Around the perimeter, tables fashioned from sturdy reclaimed wood provide ample space for groups of scholars and negotiators to review documents, spread maps, and discuss strategies for sustainable water use. The room is bathed in warm, golden light from lanterns hanging from the domed ceiling, which is supported by a framework of intricately carved timber beams reminiscent of traditional caravan architecture. One wall features a massive chalkboard surface, where the latest water agreements and negotiations are recorded and updated daily, symbolizing the ever-evolving nature of collaboration in this water-starved land. A series of colorful silk banners, donated by various associations, hang from the rafters, celebrating the diversity of the community and their unified purpose.
