In Cendrelis, workshops and gardens share energy from collectively maintained solar mirrors. Nothing is free or indestructible: every project needs time, materials and agreement. When two neighbourhoods claim the same heat reserve, craftspeople, gardeners and residents must invent a sharing arrangement that also protects quieter voices.

Discover the place

Workbenches, symbol-marked storage and an inspection area organize the work. Repaired parts stay separate from equipment awaiting examination. A solar city builds its future by repairing rather than replacing.

History

Successive improvements show collective upkeep: replaced parts, widened passages and uses adjusted to residents’ needs.

Verdant Archive

Nestled in the heart of the Maintained Mirror Yard, the Verdant Archive is a circular, open-air structure adorned with trellises that drape with climbing plants, creating a green canopy that filters the sunlight. This space serves as both a library and resource center where blueprints and manuals for repairs are stored, alongside worked examples of repaired items. The central feature is a large circular table made from reclaimed wood, surrounded by benches crafted from reused metal frames. Shelves, crafted from scrap materials and metal rods, hold an array of tools and instruction manuals, all organized by community volunteers. The atmosphere is lively yet serene, filled with the soft rustle of leaves and the gentle hum of engaged conversations among residents sharing knowledge and skills in repair work. The Archive often hosts workshops and discussions, fostering collaboration and creativity in problem-solving through repair and reuse.

The Prism Forge

The Prism Forge is a workshop located adjacent to the Maintained Mirror Yard, designed to harness and amplify the sunlight captured by the surrounding solar mirrors. Inside, the forge is divided into distinct workstations where artisans blend raw materials—glass, metals, and recycled composites—to create vibrant, iridescent solar panels and intricate designs for community projects. The space features large windows that allow natural light to pour in, creating a kaleidoscopic effect on the walls and floors, where the light dances across mosaics made from broken mirrors and colorful shards. A central open space contains a communal area where makers can collaborate and share ideas, lined with hanging plants that thrive in the bright atmosphere. Tools, crafted from upcycled elements, are organized on walls made of repurposed wood, and shelves display various projects in progress, showcasing the creative potential of recycled and repaired materials. The ambiance is energetic and inspiring, filled with the sounds of clinking glass and the chatter of excited creators.

The Green Exchange

The Green Exchange is a vibrant marketplace nestled within the Maintained Mirror Yard, designed to foster the trading and sharing of goods, materials, and skills among residents. This semi-covered, open-air space is elegantly framed by archways constructed from reclaimed metal and adorned with natural climbing vines. The market's layout consists of circular stalls crafted from various upcycled materials, each representing different cooperative groups: one for locally grown plants, another for handcrafted tools, and others showcasing textiles made from recycled fabrics. In the center, a communal seating area is formed around a large, circular mosaic table, made from colorful broken tiles, where residents can gather, share knowledge, and discuss projects. The atmosphere buzzes with the sounds of haggling, laughter, and the rustling of leaves, creating a lively yet welcoming environment filled with the exchange of ideas and creations.
