About this world

In Cendrelis, workshops and gardens share energy from collectively maintained solar mirrors. Nothing is free or indestructible: every project needs time, materials and agreement. When two neighbourhoods claim the same heat reserve, craftspeople, gardeners and residents must invent a sharing arrangement that also protects quieter voices.

Resource Exchange Hub

The Resource Exchange Hub is a spacious, multifunctional area within the Recovered Material Reserve. This hub is designed with community collaboration in mind. It features large, modular tables made from repurposed wood where citizens can gather to brainstorm new projects and share resources. The walls are lined with bulletin boards showcasing project ideas, spare parts available for exchange, and messages from residents looking for specific materials. Sunlight filters in through skylights, creating an inviting atmosphere filled with the sounds of enthusiastic discussion and the gentle clinking of tools. Solar-powered lamps cast a warm glow during evening hours, adding to the welcoming environment. The floor is a mosaic of recycled tiles, each telling a story of past craftsmanship.

The Compaction Chamber

The Compaction Chamber serves as a central hub for transforming and preparing materials for reuse. The chamber itself is a large, vaulted space with high ceilings, adorned with hanging solar panels that capture light and power the equipment within. At the heart of this area stands a series of sturdy, repurposed compactors and shredders, their metallic surfaces reflecting sunlight. Surrounding these machines are workstations equipped with tools for artisans and community members to workshop their materials before they are compacted. The walls are lined with colorful murals depicting the journey of materials from waste to reuse, inspiring creativity and awareness about sustainability. A collaboration bench runs along one side, allowing multiple people to discuss their projects while working together, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.

The Green Restoration Loft

The Green Restoration Loft is an elevated workspace within the Recovered Material Reserve, designed for craftsmanship and creativity. Accessible via a spiral staircase made from reclaimed wood, this airy space features large windows that let in abundant natural light, illuminating the various gardening and restoration projects taking place. Lush plants drape from hanging pots, creating a vibrant atmosphere where nature and making intersect. The loft is equipped with tables made from repurposed materials, each serving a different purpose: from plant propagation to small-scale repairs of household items. A shared library of repair manuals and gardening books lines one wall, encouraging community learning and skill-sharing among residents. The atmosphere is filled with the sounds of gentle conversation and the rustle of foliage, merging the spirit of collaboration and sustainability. Local artisans often display their repaired items or workshops, further enriching this creative space.
